SouthScene - Album Review

... as far as rock/metal music taking fervent strides towards originality and creativity go, Karalta are clearly one step ahead of some of their peers. Like bands such as Incubus, Sikth, Aconite Thrill and of course the Godfather's of all things insane, Faith No More, they are not afraid to try out different things and for the most part, successfully pull it off in the process!

the band

karalta - theband

Karalta is a three piece band that fuses together metal, jazz, rock and funk creating their own unique sound. The centre of this sound comes from the combination of a six string bass, a seven string guitar and a wide range of musical influences such as jazz musician Charlie Hunter and bands like Pulse Ultra, Finch and Incubus.

Originally formed in 2003, karalta was the brainchild of long time friends Scott Walker and Luke Ince who had the concept of bringing together the interesting musical sounds of jazz with the power of detuned rock and metal. The pair recorded some initial demos which lead to them finding a drummer, Jake Flood, and getting headlining show slots at local touring venues such as ‘The Joiners’ in Southampton.

Within a few months of the line up being completed, the band decided to record the first body of songs which became their nine track album entitled ‘Another’. This album was released in August 2005 to favourable reviews. The band played numerous live shows in support of this release sharing stages with bands like Johnny Panic, Toupe, 209 and Inner Mantra.

In 2006 the band began recording their follow up EP ‘Shining from Shadows’, which was released over the internet at the beginning of 2008. The band is currently supporting this release and playing live shows across the South of England.
